Friday Post

Hey all. Sorry there's been no recent posts, but yours truly has been down with a bad case of the sniffles for the last week or so. To make up for it, here's a super-special once-in-a-blue-moon Friday posting.

So, let's see... what to start off with? Oh, of course. How silly of me. It's obvious.

FRIDAY! FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY FRIDAY! The awesomest most bestest day of the week ever. The day of movie releases, Friday Night Standup, and prelude to weekend-long Busta Fruit marathons (or raiding Zul Gurub, whatever floats your boat). Personally? Godzilla & James Bond marathon with my pals at my place.

In Cafe.com news, version 3.0 of Absolute Solitaire was uploaded Tuesday. This new version tweaks a few bugs that players were experiencing, so everything will run a bit smoother now.

Also, Cafe.com has launched yet another language site! Cafe.com is now available in German, alongside the existing English and French portals. What, you didn't know they were so... international? There's even more regions on the way!

Before I forget (and since I missed it), I hope everyone who celebrated had a good Rosh Hashanah, and l'shanah    tovah tikatevi v'taihatemi (10 points to anyone who posts the translation to that in the comments)! For those not in the tribe, Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of the Jewish New Year, celebrated by attending synagogue to hear the blowing of the Shofar, resting from work from sundown to sundown for the two days of the holiday (Sept 29-Oct 1 this year), and eating challah bread & apples dipped in honey (for a sweet new year). Yum! Of course, this all leads to Yom Kippur next Thursday... but I'll talk more about that next week.

Well, thats about it for the week wrap-up. I'll leave you with this so-true message from one of my favorite webcomic, xkcd:

Un-solitary solitaire? Yes please!

You know, I'm as much a fan of solitaire as the next gal. Whether its killing a few minutes before going to bed, bored at work, or just trying to give myself a bit of a challenge, there's nothing like a good old game of classic solitaire. But sometimes, solitaire is just so... solitary. And boring. Even the versions you find online, like the one at the MSN Game Zone (which, by the by, has an absolutely hideous color scheme, requires an installation even to play online, AND, surprise surprise, will not run on Firefox) offer zip and nada in the added fun department.

Enter Absolute Solitaire at Cafe.com. It takes the classic solitaire game and gives it that multi-player punch that Cafe does so well, and with boosts like Mirror and Three Card to use against your opponents, its a whole new card game. Even when I do feel the urge for some alone time, Absolute Solitaire's beautiful customizable backgrounds and card faces stand head and shoulders above any others I've seen.

Forget those boring, drab solitary-solitaire games. Try Absolute Solitaire for an absolute awesome time!

June's Cafe Spotlight

Hear ye, hear ye, one and all! Back by popular demand it's... The Cafe Spotlight! Once a month, we train our sights on Cafe.com's biggest fans. This time around, we're talking to robertp223, a familiar face in the Cafe game rooms.

1. So how did you find Cafe.com? By accident, actually... I was bored at lunch and looking for Battle-Ship online, and stumbled across Cafe.com.

2. What attracted you to the site? Great people. Competitive, and really good sports. Speaking of which, props to: JamieLea, nalojojo, tink, Cheri, and SML.

3. Other than Battle-Ship, what's your favorite game at Cafe.com?
Temple of Mahjong, definitely.

4. Which boost do you use the most? Shuffle and Pocket. They're really helpful when you're stuck.

5. Which game are you best at?
My favorite, Temple of Mahjong. I've tied for top honors, and my fastest completion time is 2 minutes 16 seconds.

Wow, 2 minutes 16 seconds? Nice job robertp223! We're all glad you found Cafe.com, and I'm happy you found so many great people to play with. After this Spotlight, I bet you'll have even more people challenging your Mahjong supremacy. Good luck!

Mahjong Wars: cafe.com whups pogo

Mahjongwars2

Man, what are they thinking over at Pogo.com?

I just cant get into their Mahjong games. Literally. Oh dont get me wrong, at my friends behest I really, really tried, but its like they want you to give up in frustration. For starters, the best version of it isnt even available to everyone you have to be a paying VIP.

Oh well, theyve got bunches of others, Ill just try one of them right? Oh, too bad, cant play it in Firefox, so now I have to load up Internet Explorer (ew). Can you say inconvenient? On to the game! Wait, no oh look, IE needs to install software to play the game and the browsers security protocols are blocking its own download. Great. The game better be worth all this trouble.

And meanwhile, I especially love the little add screaming hello at me every time my mouse passes near it. Not. Ok, forget in-browser, Ill just try the downloadable version.

Finally, Im playing. Ok, lots of layouts, pretty graphics, not badnot bad but jeez, can you say boring? And way too easy.

Thats it, I give up. Im going back to Cafe.com. The Mahjong there is just a lot more challenging I just click and play. Dont even have to be a member!

Interview with Cafe.com's biggest fans

Hey all! We've got a special spotlight on todays blog, an interview with Cafe.com's biggest fans: Owatevr, Spartan11738, and candra03; a mother-daughter-son trio who know that a family that plays together, stays together!

I sat down with these close-knit java heads to find out what keeps em coming back to the Cafe. The questions were posed to all three, and answers were provided by Owatevr.

1. First things first, how did you discover Cafe.com? I think I received an emailtelling me about a new game site... so I checked it out. I am so glad Idid... we LOVE playing at cafe.com!

2. Do you have a favorite game to play together? :0) We don't have the samefavorites. The kids like to play Sketch It and I LOVE to play Temple ofMahjong. So, we play both quite a bit. I bribe them to play Mahjongwith me by playing Sketch It with them!

3. What is your strategy to beat each other? Bragging in ourhousehold is definitely something to be had! The kids will stop atnothing (including emailing the tech people for hints) to beat Mom. Andyou'll catch us practicing every change we get to keep our skills sharp!

4. Bragging rights, huh? So who brags the most? Mom [Owatevr], by far! At my age, these are the things you look forward to!

5. Ok, but who WINS the most? [My Son] Spartan usually mops the floor withus when we play Sketch It, but Mom [Owatevr] RULES at Temple ofMahjong! [My daughter] Candra is only 8, so she doesn't have the grossmotor skills yet to be a real threat... but she's developing themeveryday!

6. What's it like getting to play together with your family like this? It's a lot of fun! It makes computer time "family time" that we can allenjoy. The kids have 2 older sisters also, but being older teenagersand all we can't get them to play with us... they don't know what theyare missing!

Wow, isn't this nice? More families should get together like this! Keep playing guys, and good luck. Thanks for the interview, and I hope you manage to get those other two girls on. You're right, they're totally missing out!

Mondays

Yuck, Monday. I'm counting on all the weekend fun I had to fuel me through the rest of the week. Luckily, I had plenty of it - fun, that is!

My brother came to visit, and we spent the whole time playing Together Jigsaw at Cafe.com, racing each other to see who could put the pieces together first. He might beat me more often if he didn't keep getting distracted by the pictures. Not that I blame him - there's tons of great ones - but sheesh! 23 losses in a row?  Or maybe I'm just that good :-).

Anyway, you guys should grab your friends and check it out too! And after you've had a chance to try out a few of the differentpuzzles, why don't you post a comment to share which was your favorite? I love the sunflower one myself.

Keep your chin up, the weekend will be here before you know it! Keep playing those awesome online games to get yourself through the week!
